St Margaret's Church Heritage Project

The main aims of the project

The project is scheduled to be completed mid-2018 and consists of the following:-

  • Re-cast the bells and re-hang in a new bell frame and fittings about three metres lower in the tower.
  • Create a new glass fronted oak framed ringing gallery just below the level of the main west window.
  • Deliver a bell-ringing programme.
  • Install a video camera near the bells with viewing screen in the bell ringers’ gallery and another screen in the Heritage Resource Area.
  • Install a computer-simulated “silent ringing practice system”.
  • Clean and overhaul the tower clock fitting two auto-winders and an auto-correct mechanism
  • Create a Heritage Resource Area at ground level below the new gallery with lighting, display boards, guide book holders, storage cupboards and improved seating.
  • Produce two coloured printed guides of the church, leaflets on specific aspects of the church, a young people’s guide and activity pack for schools and families.
  • Produce five pop-up banners about church heritage.
  • Install Wi-Fi broadband and monitored CCTV.
  • Install new lighting for the nave ceiling and a table with mirror on wheels.
  • Develop a new church website.
  • Make a photographic record of the project and make accessible on the church website.
  • Record personal stories of people with connections to the church and make accessible on the church website.
  • Deliver tour guide training for volunteers.
